VFW Convention Jun 19 2026

On June 19, 2026, VAlanthropy attended the VFW Convention to share the mission of Hidden Wounds Village- Alpha and connect with veterans, VFW members, auxiliary members, families, and community supporters.

We are grateful to VFW Post 6740 for sponsoring our table at the convention. Their support gave VAlanthropy a meaningful opportunity to introduce more people to the work taking place for veterans in Sumter, South Carolina.

At our table, we shared information about Hidden Wounds Village- Alpha, a planned community of 12 permanent, affordable one-bedroom apartments for veterans. The project will provide more than housing. It will connect veterans with trauma-informed support, employment transition resources, community reintegration opportunities, and long-term outcome tracking.

We also shared how VAlanthropy leads the development, infrastructure, furnishing, funding strategy, and long-term sustainability of the community. This work requires dependable partnerships and support from people who understand that stable housing creates a stronger path toward independence.

Visitors learned about ways they can participate, including:

• Becoming a monthly Village Builder through the $20 for 12 campaign
• Supporting apartment furnishings and household essentials
• Connecting VAlanthropy with local businesses and community partners
• Hosting a fundraiser or awareness event
• Sharing the mission with veterans and families who may benefit from the future community

The conversations at the VFW Convention showed the value of bringing veteran organizations and community partners together. Every connection helps increase awareness of the need for permanent affordable veteran housing in South Carolina.
