March 17, 2025 marked a defining moment in VAlanthropy's mission to build permanent, affordable housing for veterans in South Carolina.

Community leaders, supporters, partners, and advocates gathered in Sumter to celebrate the official groundbreaking of Hidden Wounds Village Alpha—the first veteran-focused housing community developed by VAlanthropy.

More than the start of construction, the ceremony represented years of planning, collaboration, and determination to create a place where veterans can find stability, dignity, and community.

Hidden Wounds Village Alpha is designed as a 12-unit permanent housing community that combines affordable housing with access to supportive services through a network of trusted community partners. The vision has always been to build more than apartments—we are building a neighborhood where healing, independence, and long-term success can take root.

The groundbreaking celebrated several important milestones already achieved by the organization, including securing the project site, advancing engineering and development work, and receiving support that helped move the vision from planning into construction.

For everyone who attended, the ceremony was more than a photo opportunity. It was a visible reminder that meaningful change happens when a community comes together around a shared purpose.

Construction has continued to move forward as VAlanthropy works alongside contractors, donors, volunteers, and community partners to bring Hidden Wounds Village Alpha to completion.
