A Donated Mustang Helped Drive Awareness for Veteran Housing
A donated Ford Mustang gave VAlanthropy a new way to share its mission with communities across South Carolina.
What began as a generous in-kind gift became an opportunity to meet veterans, speak with families and community members, and build awareness for Hidden Wounds Village Alpha—VAlanthropy’s permanent affordable housing community in Sumter.
Over several months, the Mustang appeared at local car shows, veteran gatherings, parades, and community events throughout the Midlands. It caught people’s attention, but the conversations it started created the greatest value.
Veterans, families, residents, and potential supporters stopped to learn more about VAlanthropy and why stable, permanent housing matters. Those conversations opened the door to share the vision for Hidden Wounds Village Alpha: 12 permanent, affordable one-bedroom apartments designed to help veterans build stability, independence, and long-term opportunity.
Connecting With Communities Across the Midlands
Each event introduced VAlanthropy to people who may not have known about our work before.
We listened as veterans shared their experiences. We answered questions about the housing community and met individuals interested in donating, volunteering, partnering, or simply helping others understand the importance of long-term housing solutions for veterans.
The Mustang showed how an in-kind gift can create impact far beyond the value of the donated item. It became a recognizable part of our outreach, helped create meaningful connections, and gave our team a natural way to begin conversations about housing, stability, and community support.
Celebrating the Raffle Winner
The winning Mustang raffle ticket was drawn Sept 30, 2025, bringing together supporters who believed in VAlanthropy’s mission and the future of VAlanthropy’s Hidden Wounds Village – Alpha
In October, VAlanthropy presented the Mustang to its new owner during a celebration that marked the conclusion of the campaign. It was an opportunity to thank the vehicle donor, raffle participants, volunteers, and every community member who helped make the effort possible.
Their involvement helped turn one donated vehicle into months of visibility, engagement, and support for permanent affordable veteran housing.
Supporting Hidden Wounds Village Alpha
Hidden Wounds Village Alpha is being developed in Sumter, South Carolina, as a community of 12 permanent, affordable one-bedroom apartments for veterans.
VAlanthropy leads the development, infrastructure, construction, furnishing, funding strategy, and long-term sustainability of the community. Supportive partners will help connect residents with trauma-informed resources, employment-transition support, and community reintegration opportunities.
This work is rooted in a simple belief: housing is more than a roof. Stable housing creates a foundation for veterans to move forward with dignity, confidence, and greater independence.
The donated Mustang did not build the community by itself. It helped create something essential during the project’s development—awareness, relationships, and new opportunities for people to become part of the mission.
Thank You to Our Community
We are grateful to the individual who donated the Mustang, the volunteers who supported event appearances, the people who participated in the raffle, and every community member who took time to speak with us.
Community support can take many forms. A donated item, volunteer hour, introduction, sponsorship, or financial contribution can help move this work forward.
Together, we are building stable housing, strong partnerships, and sustainable opportunities that empower veterans to thrive.
